CBRE Ireland Graduate Programme

CBRE graduates are passionate about property, with the academic edge and specialist knowledge to help take our business to the next level. They come from all backgrounds and cultures. They’re hard-working, professional and adaptable: happy working in a small, close-knit team but committed to the growth of our global organisation.

Hear from some of our current graduates and their journey so far.

CBRE is a great environment to work in, full of people who have a passion for their work and are not afraid to get out there. No day is boring and come Thursday before pay day, everybody congregates on the balcony for Pizzas and Beer to reflect on the previous 4 weeks of mayhem. There is a great balance between work/life and I am thoroughly enjoying my time here.
Like many others in their mid-20s I found it difficult to get work in Ireland after college (2010-2012) so I packed my bags and headed overseas. After two years of traveling it was time to bite the bullet, return to the nest and commit myself to the one year full time Msc in Real Estate at DIT Bolton Street.  Whilst attending the course I actively pursued work in the property industry and was offered a position at another property firm, however, after much deliberation I turned it down as I had my sights set on CBRE.  An opportunity came up to interview for the Graduate Programme and the rest, as they say, is history!
CBRE were very accommodating when I started as I was still pulling together my Thesis. I could work 3 days a week and focus on my college work for the rest. After submission, I embraced my full-time role on the Graduate Rotation Programme and took up my post as an Office Agent working on the Landlord side of transactions. This is a fast-paced environment and I hit the ground running, conducting my first viewing on my second day. You are thrown in the deep end, however, with the largest Office Agency team in the country the support is there when you need it.
The Graduate program offers great opportunity for career progression, providing exposure to different facets of the property industry.  I have now rotated to the Valuations Team where I am exposed to all aspects of property from agricultural land valuations to graveyards, windfarms and prime office space.  I am looking forward to my next rotation.
My time here to date has been exciting and challenging. There is a real hard work ethic! That said, people are very approachable and when the work is done we are encouraged to blow off some steam. To this end there are fantastic events organised throughout the year ranging from evenings at the races, dinner and a dance at Johnny Fox’s Pub to a day out helping in Barretstown. Our Charity Committee also organises fundraising events for our nominated charities as well as the Rainbow Fun Run and Ring of Kerry Cycle. Honestly, the list of social activities is endless and we are actively encouraged to get involved in as much as we can. “Friendly” 5-a-side football games are arranged for Tuesday evenings and Tennis and Tag Rugby are also available.   Basically, if there is something you want to take part in, set it up, get the interest and get involved.

I joined CBRE after college and have enjoyed the past year working as a graduate. I first heard about CBRE during a careers fair at Dublin Institute of Technology where I was doing my second property related degree in Property Economics, my first being Auctioneering, Valuation and Real Estate. CBRE were one of the few companies that talked about the development of its employees as well as the work they do and this was very important to me.  I also found that my personal values are reflected in CBRE’s RISE Values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.

I started in the Valuations department where I enjoyed compiling comparable evidence and generating reports. I have recently rotated to Asset Services and have discovered some hidden talents.  This would not have been possible without the opportunity for rotation. Every department takes a hands-on approach and you normally work alongside a chartered member of the team. I thoroughly enjoy this way of working as it allows me to take my own initiative while having a sensible level of supervision for learning purposes.

There are many benefits to working for the world’s largest commercial real estate services and investment firm. Great training and APC preparation are just some of the many opportunities offered to graduates’. Socially there are multiple events to attend like the annual surveyor’s ball and numerous forums/committees to get involved with, like our 2017 chosen charities - Plan International and Crumlin Children's Hospital. I personally joined the charity committee and attended many social and CPD events. I have also organized events like our Charity Rainbow Raffle and CBRE’s attendance at the 2016 Surveyor’s Ball.

CBRE is a company that cares about its people as well as its clients and that’s what attracted a graduate like me.

The graduate programme in CBRE has been an exceptionally good learning curve in terms of my experience so far. It generally involves a rotation system in agency, valuation, investment/capital markets over a three-year period. The graduate programme is very well structured to give you the necessary exposure in a range of different departments. The practical experience and regular exposure to clients, whether it is sitting in on meetings or out on viewings and inspections, is invaluable.

As a company CBRE truly go above and beyond to make graduates feel welcome with a very active social and wellness team who regularly organise activities and interactive sessions. Graduates are encouraged to get involved as much as possible in all aspects of this, which creates a culture of inclusiveness and enjoyment.

The APC process is second to none and is designed to make the journey to become a Chartered Surveyor as smooth as possible. Each graduate is assigned an individual counsellor to help them along the way and there are quarterly graduate forums to discuss any relevant topics as well as monthly mock interviews on APC related topics. This is where CBRE really seem to have a competitive advantage!

I would highly recommend the CBRE Graduate Programme to anyone considering a career in commercial property.
